I was just wondering how can I figure out if my catalytic converter is stopped up?

I dont want to have to take it to some just to have them tell me it is. It's not giving off that bad smell like alot of stopped up catalytic converters do, but my car is a 1983 Cutlass Supreme and It has never been changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I was just wondering how can I figure out if my catalytic converter is stopped up?the easiest way to figure this one out is to tap on it, sort of like beating on somebodys door when they wont answer, with your hand or a hammer. the sound should be almost hollow for a new converter, and dull, heavy for a plugged converter. you can usually feel that it is plugged up when you hit it with your hand, it will feel heavy. hope this helps p.s. if it is original to your 83 i would bet my next paycheck it is plugged upI was just wondering how can I figure out if my catalytic converter is stopped up?take it off and get the rust out , if you cant start your car at night and see if it gets real hot mine was glowing redhot ...it was cloggedI was just wondering how can I figure out if my catalytic converter is stopped up?if it ain't broke -- don't fix it .... if your ride is going like okay then don't worry and be happy that you are not having to buy expensive new parts If you want to know for sure then you must go to a muffler shop and get the car tested for good/bad cat. converter ..I was just wondering how can I figure out if my catalytic converter is stopped up?If your car has 100K or more it would be a good idea to chang eit, especially if you have used high grade gas all the time.
