How often does your Catalytic Converter need to be replaced?

I have a 97 hyundai tiburon that has 144K miles on it. I purchased it off of some guy about 10K miles ago and i don't think he ever changed anything. Should i replace it because i heard that after a while it gets glogged and old. Is that true? How often does your Catalytic Converter need to be replaced?Hopefully you should never have to replace it unless it develops a problem. I certainly would not replace it on a preventive basis. They are quite expensive. How often does your Catalytic Converter need to be replaced?Wait till you get the car smoged If it doesn't pass smog More than likely it needs a new cat until then do nothing..like the other guy did!How often does your Catalytic Converter need to be replaced?Dont worry about it until it throws a code.... the P0420 code is the Cat code of death..... when you see that it's time to change it. Cats usually last from 100-150K.....
